In Rochester, garden centers are busiest on spring weekends, when new stock arrives and popular plants sell out; weekday mornings are calmer and staff have more time to answer questions. Ask which plants are hardy for your USDA zone in New York, whether trees and shrubs carry a replacement guarantee (one year is common), and whether the nursery delivers and plants large items. Fall is the best planting season for many trees and perennials, and end-of-season sales are common. Many nurseries close or shorten hours in winter, so check the listing for current hours and Google rating before you go.
Hours are published for 7 days a week. Typical hours are 10 amβ7 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach Sunset Hydroponics & Home Brewing at (585) 475-0011; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. If zero stars were possible, thatβs what this store would receive. The moment I walked in, the smell of cigarette smoke hit me. The employee was smoking just inside the back door, which is completely unprofessional and unacceptable in a retail environment. The customer service was equally disappointing. I didnβt ask for advice, yet the employee felt the need to comment on what I planned to do with a product. Additionally, I was told that #3 perlite was on order. When I called, I was told it was in stock for $20. When I arrived, I was told the opposite. Blame was put on the other employee working. The lack of communication and accuracy is frustrating and wastes customersβ time. Between the smoke, the misinformation, and the attitude, this store clearly needs better staff and better management. I will not be returning, and I wonβt be recommending this place to anyone. Also loose the attitude. 100% will not be going back or recommending. Your employee cost you money/sales, you lost sales due to him. Not once but twice.

Went in for some soil and nutrients yesterday, I was greated by a guy I think his name was George but I could be wrong, he was very friendly, helpful and made great conversation. Interactions like this is what customer service is all about, and also makes me want to go back and spend money at this great shop instead of ordering supplies online. Will be back!

Stopped in today looking for perlite and the owner (I think) let me know I didnβt need it due to the media Iβm growing in. Then, educated me on a deficiency I was experiencing and took my right to the GH section which told me everything about the kind of guy he is. He was helping, not up-selling. I already only come here when I need something grow related but now I feel really good about it too.

Great stop for the home brewer. They have kits, a good selection of grains, hops and yeast as well as supplies you would need for bottling or kegging. Staff has always been helpful and friendly. They do have a wide selection of hydroponics supplies too, from food and lamps to testing equipment and pumps they have it all!

As an avid home brewer this shop is vital to my survival. They have everything you need to start your first brew or for veterans to take it to the next level. The staff are friendly and very knowledgeable about brewing and kegging. They have been my go to scource for all my ingredients and equipment for years. Give these guys your business, you might get something a few cents cheaper online but when you are in the middle of a brew and need a critical item or piece of advice you will be happy you have "a guy".
